‘Take off uniform, contest elections’: JUI-F chief Maulana Diesel challenges Asim Munir, claims Pakistani army lost Balochistan

One of Pakistan’s most influential religious and political leaders, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has strongly criticised the country’s military establishment. While speaking at a rally in Punjab’s Qasur, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief painted a grim picture of the country’s security situation. He accused the military of overstepping its constitutional role and meddling in politics.

Challenging Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir, Rehman, also known as Maulana Diesel said, “If you want to do politics, then take off the uniform and come; participate in the elections, and it will become clear what votes people give to those in uniform,” he said.

‘Balochistan has slipped out of Pakistan’s control’

Fazlur Rehman shed light on the alarming security situation in Pakistan, claiming the state had slowly lost its grip over large parts of Balochistan before violence hit Pashtun-majority regions as well. “The country is falling apart. Where are the rulers?” he asked.

“There were rebellions in the Baloch areas. The entire region had slipped out of Pakistan’s control. Even today, there is no writ of the Pakistani government there.” The JUI-F chief further claimed the deteriorating security situation had now spread to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We were holding back the Baloch region; now the Pashtun region is drowning in blood too. We have received more than fifty bodies in just two or three days.”

Rahman launches sharp attack on Pakistan’s security situation

Fazlur Rehman also launched a blistering attack on Pakistan’s security strategy. He warned that asking civilians to take on armed groups would worsen social divisions, fueling violence for generations. “You will leave, but you are pushing my homeland toward personal vendettas for generations to come, pushing it forever toward murder and plunder,” he said.

What triggered the JUI-F chief’s remarks?

The sharp criticism came days after Asim Munir urged civilians to stand alongside the Pakistani army in its fight against militant groups, underscoring that the armed forces alone could not eliminate terrorism without public support.
