Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The trip was confirmed in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, Shettima will join heads of state, ministers, senior government officials and business leaders from across West Africa at the summit, which will be held at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown.
The meeting is expected to focus on key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening peace, security, democratic governance, economic growth and regional integration across the sub-region.
The summit, which forms part of ECOWAS’ mid-year statutory meetings, will also deliberate on trade, infrastructure and sustainable development as member states seek to deepen regional cooperation and address common political and economic challenges.
The statement added that the Vice President will return to Abuja after concluding his engagements in Sierra Leone.
