Rainfall: NEMA confirms 4 deaths in Sokoto

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the death of four persons after a devastating windstorm resulting from heavy rainfall in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Malam Tukur Abubakar, the Head of Response Research and Statistics, Sokoto Field Office, NEMA, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Sokoto.

Abubakar said that NEMA conducted an assessment of the affected communities, which included Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya, and surrounding settlements in Kware LGA.

” Preliminary findings revealed that hundreds of households were affected, in which many people sustained injuries, while four deaths were recorded as a result of the disaster,” Abubakar said.

He said that the assessment team also recorded extensive damage to homes and critical public infrastructure, including one primary school and one hospital, underscoring the severity of the incident

According to him, the exercise was undertaken to determine the extent of the damage and identify the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected communities. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
