The Delta State Police Command has said that Asaba-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” will be prosecuted over the alleged rape of 20-year-old Favour Agbro, who subsequently died after ingesting a toxic substance.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the planned prosecution in an update issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
According to Edafe, the 40-year-old suspect remains in police custody and will be arraigned upon the completion of the necessary investigative and legal procedures.
“He is in custody and will be charged to court,” the police spokesperson said.
Ogbonna, an Asaba-based content creator, was arrested on Wednesday after the police received a petition concerning the alleged sexual assault and subsequent death of Agbro.
The deceased, who was from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, reportedly travelled to Asaba on June 1 after communicating with the suspect about receiving training in content creation and monetising her TikTok and Facebook accounts.
The police alleged that, after Agbro arrived in Asaba, the suspect took her to a hotel where she was sexually assaulted and subjected to physical violence.
She reportedly returned home in distress and informed members of her family about the alleged incident.
According to the police account, Agbro later recorded a video in which she narrated her alleged experience and the emotional distress she suffered afterwards.
She subsequently ingested a toxic substance and died despite efforts to save her life.
Following a petition submitted to the command, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to commence an immediate investigation into the allegations.
The investigation resulted in Ogbonna’s arrest.
Police said the suspect made statements during the preliminary investigation, while detectives continued working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and Agbro’s death.
The command assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that every aspect of the case would be investigated and that appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, photographs, videos and purported extracts of conversations involving Agbro and the suspect have continued to circulate on social media, generating widespread public debate about the incident.
A separate video circulating online reportedly showed the suspect in handcuffs appealing to Agbro’s family for forgiveness and seeking a settlement.
In the footage, he described the incident as a “terrible mistake” and reportedly offered to surrender everything in an attempt to resolve the matter.
The circulation of the materials has prompted conflicting comments from social-media users, including attempts by some persons to assign blame to both the deceased and the suspect.
However, the authenticity and complete context of all the materials circulating online have not been determined by a court.
The allegations against Ogbonna also remain unproven until the prosecution presents its evidence and a court reaches a verdict.
