Mohammed and Isa were killed on July 1 while returning from a security meeting convened by the Divisional Police Officer in Ohimini Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet said in a statement Saturday that the latest arrests followed “sustained intelligence gathering, painstaking investigation and continuous tactical operations” by the command.
Ten suspects were previously arrested in connection with the incident.
The newly arrested suspects are: Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45.
Edet said the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations as part of the ongoing probe into the killing.
Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu commended the investigating and tactical teams for their professionalism, noting that their efforts “have continued to produce positive results.”
The Command assured residents that investigations were still ongoing and that anyone found to have taken part directly or indirectly in the killings would be arrested and prosecuted.
CP Nwadiogbu appealed to the public to remain calm and support security agencies with credible and timely information to aid investigations.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining peace, law and order across Benue State.
