The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has fixed August 5, 2026, for the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course, setting in motion the final stage of mobilisation for thousands of prospective corps members across the country.
The scheme also announced that call-up numbers have been uploaded to the personal dashboards of eligible prospective corps members, paving the way for the release of call-up letters ahead of the three-week orientation exercise.
The announcement, made in a statement in Monday by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, marks the official countdown to another nationwide orientation programme that will take place simultaneously in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the statement, the orientation course will begin on Wednesday, August 5, and end on Tuesday, August 25.
The development comes after weeks of anticipation among prospective corps members, many of whom have been monitoring the NYSC portal for updates on mobilisation and deployment.
Rather than merely announcing camp dates, the latest update signals that the mobilisation process has entered its final phase. The upload of call-up numbers is one of the last administrative steps before corps members receive their deployment details and prepare for reporting at their assigned orientation camps.
The NYSC said call-up letters would be made available “in due course”. It urged prospective corps members to continue monitoring their dashboards for further updates.
Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, congratulated all those mobilised for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II service year. He described their mobilisation as a significant milestone following the successful completion of their academic programmes in institutions within and outside Nigeria.
He advised prospective corps members to prioritise their safety while travelling to their various orientation camps.
The Director-General particularly warned against embarking on night journeys. He urged participants to comply with established travel and safety guidelines throughout their movement to camp.
His warning reflects a longstanding safety policy of the scheme which has repeatedly discouraged corps members from travelling after dark because of security concerns and road accidents recorded in previous service years.
Over the years, the NYSC has consistently partnered with security agencies and transport stakeholders to improve the safety of corps members during mobilisation, while repeatedly reminding participants to use approved motor parks, avoid isolated routes and maintain regular communication with relatives during transit.
The orientation course remains one of the cardinal programmes of the NYSC. During the three-week exercise, corps members undergo physical drills, leadership and citizenship training, lectures on national development, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition programmes designed to prepare them for their primary assignments after camp.
The programme also provides an opportunity for graduates from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds to interact and live together, reflecting the NYSC’s founding objective of promoting national unity and integration.
With mobilisation now entering its concluding stage, prospective corps members are expected to complete all outstanding documentation, await the release of their call-up letters and make travel arrangements in line with the safety advisory issued by the scheme.
