Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has appealed to some of the country’s biggest music stars—Burna Boy, Davido, and Asake—to come together under a single charitable foundation dedicated to supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking during a public engagement, the First Lady said the influence and financial success enjoyed by the internationally acclaimed artists could be used to make a significant impact in the lives of millions of people facing economic hardship across the country.
Addressing young Nigerians while referencing the musicians, Remi Tinubu said:
“I want to appeal to our young people in this country. Burna Boy, Asake and Davido, we want to see you come together under one foundation to help the poor with your money. The Maybachs and Rolls-Royces are good, but you can still help. The burden on the government is huge.”
The First Lady acknowledged that luxury lifestyles and expensive cars are rewards for hard work and success but emphasized that philanthropy remains an important responsibility for those blessed with wealth and influence.
According to her, a collaborative foundation involving the three award-winning artists could complement government efforts by providing assistance to disadvantaged communities, supporting education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and other humanitarian causes.
Her remarks come at a time when many Nigerians continue to grapple with rising living costs and economic challenges, increasing calls for greater involvement from private individuals, corporate organizations, and celebrities in addressing social welfare needs.
Burna Boy, Davido, and Asake are among Africa’s most successful music exports, with global recognition, sold-out international tours, and numerous awards. The trio has also been involved in various charitable activities over the years, although largely through separate initiatives.
