PATRICK-Agha Mba, the Anambra Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, says the state government remains committed to sustaining and promoting the values of the Olympic Movement through its three pillars of Move, Learn and Discover.
Mba said this on Saturday during the Olympic Day celebration held in Awka.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 500 participants, comprising men and women of different age groups, took part in a fitness walk to mark the day.
The walk began from the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) complex and terminated at the Awka Township Stadium.
The commissioner said Anambra joined the global Olympic community to celebrate unity, healthy living and friendship through sports.
He said the administration of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo was committed to promoting physical fitness, peace, love and togetherness among residents.
“Today, Anambra joins millions across the world to celebrate this year’s Olympic Day and we reaffirm our commitment to the Olympic spirit.
“For us, it is not just about today. It is about creating awareness on grassroots sports development and physical fitness.
“We will continue these activities beyond today and make them a way of life.
“We are not merely participating in the global movement; we are leading by example,” he said.
The commissioner also commended Soludo for completing the Ekwulobia Township Stadium and Sports Club, describing the project as part of the administration’s investment in sports infrastructure and development.
NAN reports that the event also featured aerobics sessions and acrobatic displays. (NAN)
