Iran-US war news: Amid rising tensions and military exchanges with the United States, Iran issued a chilling warning to Gulf states which host US military facilities as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a power station and a water desalination plant in Kuwait on Saturday morning,
What did IRGC say about Kuwait strikes?
Following the strikes, the IRGC, in a statement, warned of a “proportional response” against countries hosting US military facilities, and urged these to enable civil defence measures, alleging that their territories were being used to launch attacks on Iran.
“Countries hosting U.S. aggressor forces and providing their territory for attacks on Iran must be prepared for a response proportional to the U.S. attacks on their own soil”, the IRGC warned.
Iran launches missile barrage on Kuwait
The IRGC’s warning came hours after it launched barrage of missile strikes on Kuwait on Saturday, forcing an immediate halt to all aviation operations and damaging critical elements of the Gulf nation’s power grid and water desalination infrastructure.
Air raid sirens blared across Kuwait from the early morning hours, prompting authorities to warn residents to seek shelter and remain indoors as inbound missiles launched from Iran breached Kuwaiti airspace.
In a statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy confirmed that a fire broke out in one of the components of a power and water desalination plant in the wake of the latest Iranian strikes, Al Jazeera reported
“This necessitated precautionary operational measures, consisting of disconnecting a number of generating units to preserve the safety of the plant and its workers and to ensure the stability of the electrical grid,” the ministry said.
IRGC claims US troops killed in airbase strike
Meanwhile, the IRGC said the strikes targeted the Arifjan Ground Forces Support Centre in Kuwait, claiming that several US troops stationed at the facility were killed in the offensive which was part of the 18th wave of its “Operation Nasr 2.”
The Guards also claimed to have have neutralised the radar installation with a drone strike at the US’ Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait, and that the IRGC Navy had deployed drones and missiles against the US Navy’s fuel support pier located at Kuwait’s Al Ahmadi Port.
The strikes come amid a fresh wave of exchanges between the US and Iran as tensions between the two warring nations continue to escalate, triggering fears that a second full-scale war may break out without any diplomatic outlet in sight.
