Iran-US war news: In a stern response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement to reimpose a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and his claim that the United States will act as the “guardian” of the waterway, Iran on Monday warned that no ship will allowed to transit the Strait without its authorisation and the US forces will be met with a strong response.
What did Iran say about Trump’s Hormuz claims?
In a statement aired by Iran’s Press TV, Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson of the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, reaffirmed Iranian authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and stated that Tehran not, “under any circumstances, allow the US to interfere in the management” of the critical waterway.
The spokesperson vowed strong retaliation against any US military for the passage of the commercial vessels and oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, “outside Iran’s designated shipping route and without authorisation from Iran’s armed forces”.
“Iran’s Armed Forces will respond forcefully to any disruption to the passage of commercial vessels and oil tankers by the invading US military outside Iran’s designated shipping route and without authorisation from Iran’s armed forces. The recent actions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran are evidence of this,” Press TV quoted him as saying.
‘Act of war’; Iran warns Gulf nations
The spokesperson also warning the Gulf states against providing any logistical support to the US, stating that it will be considered as “an act of war against Iran.”
“Regional leaders are warned that any cooperation with the US or logistical support for its invading military will be regarded as an act of war against Iran’s sovereignty and national security. Should the conflict expand, the flames of war will engulf all countries in the region.”
Meanwhile, the IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Mohebi also condemned US actions in the Strait of Hormuz, accusing it of “jeopardising” global oil and gas security and reclaiming Iran’s authority over the chokepoint, according to Press TV
“The US has seriously jeopardised global oil and gas security by interfering in the Strait of Hormuz and must be held accountable,” Mohebi said, adding that “Iran will continue to exercise its sovereignty and authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and compel foreign powers and their allies to submit to the will of the Iranian nation”.
Trump declares US ‘Guardian of Hormuz’
The Iranian military’s response comes after Trump on Monday announced the reimposition of US naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an “Iranian blockade”, and declared that the United States would henceforth act as the “guardian” of the critical waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s energy supplies flow.

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed the Strait of Hormuz is “open”, and will remain so, with or without Iran. He also called the US naval blockade an “Iranian blockade”, as it is only meant to stop Iranian ships from transiting the seaway.
“The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran. We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait,” Trump wrote.
