The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Transportation, has alerted motorists to an impending partial traffic disruption along the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as the Federal Ministry of Works begins rehabilitation of the bridge.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola.
According to her, the repair work involves replacing the bridge’s expansion joints and is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, lasting for two weeks.
The ministry said the project would require a temporary reduction of the existing four-lane carriageway to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe working area for construction personnel.
As a result, motorists have been advised to expect partial traffic delays around the Kara axis throughout the duration of the project.
“Motorists are urged to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor,” Ogunlola advised.

She further noted that moderate traffic congestion is anticipated around the Fatgbems Turn as some road users may make U-turns or divert to alternative routes to avoid delays.
The director, however, added that traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to move with minimal disruption.
”Traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to flow freely with minimal disruption,” Ogunlola said.
While counselling motorists and commuters, she added, “The ministry also encourages road users to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes where possible, and comply with all traffic advisories to minimise delays.”
Road users were also advised to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed along the corridor to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Lagos government appealed for public understanding and cooperation, noting that the rehabilitation project is aimed at improving the safety, durability, and overall condition of Kara Bridge for the benefit of all road users.
