A farmer in Funtua town of Katsina State, Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, has urged the Government to take measures in addressing the high cost of fertiliser and insecurity threatening farmers this cropping season.
Aliyu made the call on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Funtua, the headquarters of Funtua Local Government Area.
According to Aliyu, this year’s farming season is one of the most difficult in recent years.
“We are facing serious challenges this year ranging from insecurity and high cost of fertiliser and other farm inputs.”
He urged governments at all levels to do something about the developments that are now posing threats to peace and food security in the area.
Aliyu said another threat to farmers that managed to toil their farms is the issue of produce theft by some criminals who are fond of raiding farms during night hours.
He stressed the need for the government and all stakeholders to work towards a lasting solution to the insecurity, particularly at the rural areas affecting agriculture in the country. (NAN)
