Adeniyi Matthew, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council, has claimed being formally appointed as the council boss with Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, aware of his appointment.
This is coming amid ongoing controversies over legitimacy of the council which the presidency had on Wednesday declared to be non-existent with Adeniyi labelled an impostor.
In what had widely been dubbed appointment for cash, the presidency’s disclaimer of the council’s existence stemmed out of Adeniyi’s allegation against Gbajambiamila who he accused of demanding money from his office.
With Gbajabiamila denying the allegation and dragging the alleged impostor to court, Adeniyi on Thursday claimed that his office was legitimate and recognised by the COS.
The self-acclaimed Director-General of the advisory council made this known while speaking through telephone conversation on Channels TV Politics Today programme.
When asked whether Gbajabiamila has knowledge about his appointment, he said while challenging the court to vindicate his appointment which he claimed he got through the COS’ office.
“Yes, let the court vindicate all those things.” He said.
Asked whether he was running away from the law, he expressed readiness to face the law.
“Definitely, if I am wrong, let the court of law do that; if I am right, let the court of law do the right thing.
“Do you know what? Since the matter is in the court, let the court of competent jurisdiction vindicate me because I am ready to clear my name. Let the court take its course.
“Since my lawyers are involved, everybody will follow us, they will monitor the whole thing. Let the court of competent jurisdiction do the needful.
“I have a letter of appointment. However, since the matter is in the court, I won’t be able to say much about it, I am on medication. I am a bit down, I am sick.” Adeniyi said.
