THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.
The commission announced on Sunday that the new deadline is midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
INEC said the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which requested more time on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload their candidates’ details within the stipulated period.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission said the decision reflected its commitment to ensuring that all political parties had the opportunity to complete the nomination process within the provisions of the law.
“The decision to extend was based on appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, on behalf of political parties who were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline,” the statement said.
According to INEC, the extension underscores its commitment to inclusivity while remaining within the ambit of the law.
The electoral body urged all political parties yet to complete the process to use the additional time to upload all required information before the new deadline expires.
The submission of candidates marks a critical stage in preparations for the 2027 general election, paving the way for the publication of candidates’ particulars and other activities outlined in the election timetable.
