Gunmen have abducted three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa State, prompting a security operation that led to the rescue of one of the victims.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, the command received a distress report from the university’s Chief Security Officer at about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, informing the police that suspected armed men had abducted three students from Living Seed Lodge, a private hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol officers and other security personnel to the area.
The police said operatives launched a coordinated search operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
The command added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the two remaining students and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police assured residents that all available resources were being deployed to secure the victims’ release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The command also urged members of the public to remain calm and report any suspicious movement or useful information that could assist the ongoing operation.
