Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has applauded the appointment of ex-Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, as the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), labelling him “a grassroots politician and a man of the masses”.
The ex-Kaduna Central Senator hailed the decision on Wednesday via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
On Monday, the Presidency announced President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Fayose as Chairman of the REA.
Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this while announcing new appointments made across various government agencies.
However, Fayose’s brother and social media influencer, Isaac Fayose, said the post was beneath the ex-governor and urged him to reject it.

He also reminded the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain that he had once vowed not to accept such a position after his tenure as governor.
“My brother told me, ‘Isaac, whenever I leave this Government House, I will not be a minister, I will not be DG, I will not be senator. I will face my business,’” Isaac recalled.
Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani argued that Fayose’s appointment would help those in rural areas gain access to electricity, given his popularity among them.
He wrote: “My friend Fayose is a grassroots politician and a man of the masses. He is appointed to an agency where the rural masses can have access to electricity.”
Apparently addressing claims regarding Fayose’s previous statements, Sani urged Nigerians not to judge him by what he had said in the past.
“Why do you want to judge him by what he said years ago? Let he who has never assured his ex that they will be together forever cast the first stone,” Sani added.
