The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to the Federal Government, in what is one of the EFCC’s biggest non-conviction-based asset recovery cases.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled on Wednesday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had established that the assets were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, and that Malami and other respondents failed to prove they were acquired with legitimate sources of income.
The forfeited assets span Abuja, Kebbi and Kano States and include Rayhaan University, Rayhaan Radio, Meethaq Hotels in Maitama and Jabi, Zeennoor Hotel, Azbir Arena and its businesses, Rayhaan Agro Allied Factory, luxury homes, commercial plazas, filling stations, warehouses, shops, factories, large parcels of land and several residential and commercial properties.
