“FirstBank Mobile App Outage Locks Customers Out Since Monday” — Users Report Prolonged Maintenance, No Update Available

First Bank

Some FirstBank customers have reported being unable to access their accounts through the bank’s FirstMobile application since Monday, July 20, 2026, as a prolonged maintenance-related disruption continues to affect mobile transactions.

Customers attempting to log in to the application have been confronted with a warning stating: “Your current app version is under maintenance. Kindly check back on your App Store for an update soon.”

However, several affected users said no updated version of the application was available on their respective app stores, leaving them unable to log in, transfer money or carry out other transactions through the platform.

Complaints reviewed on FirstBank’s official X page showed that customers had experienced the problem for more than 48 hours, with some claiming the app had remained inaccessible for about 72 hours.

One customer expressed disappointment that the application continued to display the maintenance notice despite the absence of an update on the App Store.

Another complained that the disruption had prevented access to funds and made it difficult to complete transactions, while some customers criticised the bank for allegedly failing to issue advance notification about the maintenance.

“How do you shut down your app on a Monday? Even till now, I can’t access my funds because of maintenance. No prior notification or mail,” one customer wrote.

Another user asked why the application had remained unavailable for more than 48 hours, while a separate customer described the prolonged disruption as depressing and urged the bank to restore the service.

FirstBank acknowledged several complaints through its verified social media accounts, apologised for the inconvenience and directed individual customers to check their private messages for assistance.

The bank also advised customers requiring urgent transactions to use alternative platforms, including its *894# USSD service, LITApp and FirstOnline internet banking platform, pending the restoration of the mobile application.

FirstBank further announced that customers could contact its support lines through 0708 062 5000 and 0201 227 8000 for inquiries, complaints and other service-related requests.

Although the bank stated in some of its responses that the technical problem was expected to be resolved as soon as possible, it had not, as of the time of this report, issued a comprehensive public explanation regarding the cause of the disruption or provided a definite timeline for restoring the application.

The prolonged outage has renewed concerns about customers’ dependence on digital banking platforms and the need for financial institutions to provide timely information before planned maintenance or immediately after unexpected technical failures.

The disruption comes amid strong financial developments at First HoldCo Plc, the parent company of FirstBank, which recently projected that its profit before tax could exceed ₦1.2 trillion for the 2026 financial year.

The group reportedly recovered about ₦60 billion in non-performing loans during the year, while its profit before tax for the six months ended June 30, 2026, rose to ₦653.54 billion.

Its shares also increased sharply to ₦110, helping the banking group cross the ₦5 trillion market capitalisation mark.

First HoldCo Chairman, Femi Otedola, also recently acquired an additional 706.13 million shares through Calvados Global Services Limited at approximately ₦77.6 billion, increasing his reported combined interest in the company to about 21.95 per cent.

Despite the parent company’s strong financial performance, affected customers have continued to demand the urgent restoration of the FirstMobile application and clearer communication from the bank concerning the prolonged service disruption.
