The Nigerian Federal Government (FG) has renamed the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was made known on Thursday by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, while addressing journalists.
The Tinubu-led administration commenced the highway—estimated to cost ₦15 trillion upon completion—after assuming office in May 2023.
However, the road, which is one of the President’s legacy projects with its first section nearing completion, has been mired in controversy since its commencement in March 2024.

While rechristening the road, Umahi noted that President Tinubu conceived the vision for the highway about 27 years ago as the then-serving Lagos State Governor.
“By the power conferred on me as the Honourable Minister of Works, and in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors, and the entire staff of the Ministry, we have decided to name the entire Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is a dream that Mr President had about 27 years ago,” Umahi said.
