The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Mrs Hulayat Omidiran, has urged security agencies to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal networks nationwide.
Omidiran made the appeal while reacting to the rescue of kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State by Nigerian security agencies.
This is contained in a statement issued by FCC spokesperson, Mr Ademola Lawrence, and made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja.
She said the successful operation demonstrated the importance of coordinated intelligence efforts in combating insecurity and protecting vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
Omidiran stressed that the safety of schools, children and communities must remain a national priority requiring sustained commitment from government and security agencies.
“Every Nigerian child deserves to learn in a safe and secure environment, while every teacher deserves the confidence to educate without fear,” she said.
She urged Nigerians to remain united against insecurity and support initiatives aimed at protecting lives, property and critical national institutions.
“We must continue to strengthen our collective resolve against insecurity and support all efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property,” she added.
Omidiran said government alone could not defeat insecurity, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate actively with security agencies.
“Citizens also have a critical role by providing credible and timely information to security agencies to help prevent crime and protect our communities,” she said.
The FCC chairman commended President Bola Tinubu for providing leadership that facilitated the rescue of the abducted teachers and pupils and the suspects’ arrest.
She said the operation reflected the administration’s unwavering commitment to national security and sent a strong warning that criminals would find no safe haven.
“I commend President Tinubu for providing the necessary leadership and support to our security agencies,” Omidiran said.
She also praised security personnel, describing their professionalism, resilience, patriotism and sacrifice as crucial to strengthening the nation’s fight against insecurity.
“Their commitment to protecting lives and property deserves the appreciation and support of every Nigerian,” she stated.
Omidiran described the operation as evidence of the Federal Government’s renewed determination to eliminate criminal elements and safeguard Nigerians nationwide.
She congratulated the rescued teachers, pupils and their families, expressing gratitude that the ordeal ended without loss of life or greater tragedy.
She prayed for their speedy physical and emotional recovery and reaffirmed the FCC’s commitment to supporting peace, national unity and a secure Nigeria. (NAN)
