Families and friends of the rescued students and teachers kidnapped at Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state have arrived at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital ahead of the state government’s reunion of the victims with their respective families.
NPO Reported that the victims, comprising of 39 students and five teachers, were on Monday handed over to the state government in Ibadan by the Nigerian army.
The victims were initially transferred to the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army’s military hospital for medical treatment following their rescue on Friday evening after 56 days in captivity.
The would be handed over to the state government at Agodi house where the Ahoro-Esinele Community Grammar School Principal, Mrs. Rachel Alamu, recounted their ordeal in captivity as well as the murder of two out of the seven kidnapped teachers by the insurgents.
While they are billed to be reunited with their families, the state government was reported to have taken them to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for final medical checkup.
In anticipation for the moment to see their loved one for the time in 56 days, parents, friends, and other relatives of the kidnap victims stormed the hospital on Tuesday.
Video shared on X showed them loitering around the hospital as they await their release of the students and teachers.
One of the parents who addressed newsmen expressed delight in seeing their children again.
When asked on chances on relocating from their community, the parent ruled out the chances as she affirmed that they would remain in the community.
“We will remain in our community. That is where we are working and making ends meet.
“We thank all the security personnel that allowed us to have our children back. We’ve not set our eyes on them, but we believe they are back safely.” She said.
