Bahamas Plane Crash: A Flamingo Air plane carrying 10 people crashed in the Bahamas on Friday, July 11, 2026. All on board were killed in the incident that took place in North Andros, located in waters just west of Nassau, prompting the government to ground Flamingo Air operations temporarily. The tragedy occurred hours after another plane operated by the same airline caught fire and diverted back to the archipelago’s capital following an emergency.
Disturbing video emerges
Disturbing video circulating on social media platforms showed the wreckage of the Cessna 402C scattered all over a wooded place in North Andros, where Independence Day celebrations were happening. Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis had initially said that one individual survived. However, later in a press conference, he said that the person succumbed to the injuries. According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), preliminary findings revealed that the small plane took off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau for San Andros. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation said in a statement that the temporary suspension of Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate has been implemented as a precaution while the crash is under investigation. The ministry added that the suspension stems from two safety incidents that occurred on Friday.
Briefing the press conference, Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis informed that the first incident involving a Flamingo Aircraft occurred earlier on Friday. She said it was heading to Mayaguana when the pilot reported a concern and diverted the plane back to Nassau. After the plane landed, the passengers deboarded, and later it caught fire, prompting an investigation.
