A 20-year-old nurse, Favour Agbro, has reportedly committed suicide days after being raped by a content creator in Delta State.
The content creator identified with his Facebook handle, Odogwu Asaaba, was alleged to have lured Agbro to a hotel after inviting her for Facebook and TikTok monetisation masterclass.
This was made known in a post shared on X on Wednesday by Delta-based activist, Israel Joe, who recounted the deceased nurse’s ordeal before she committed suicide last month.
According to Joe, the late Agbro who allegedly worked at Wingate Hospital at Okuokoko, Warri area of Delta state, visited Odogwu of Asaaba in Asaba, the state’s capital city, where she was raped by the content creator despite pleading and telling him that she is a virgin.
“He deceived this girl to come to Asaba. He told her that he trains people how to monetise their page. This girl, a practicing nurse at Wingate Hospital Okuokoko, fell for the trick. She went to Asaba where he met with this guy.
“The guy said na inside hotel dem go do the training. The girl tell am say she be virgin, ‘I’ve never slept with a man. Please if that is what you are thinking, I can’t.’
“He entered the room, raped the girl despite her plea. The girl even never chop. Odogwu Asaaba no give this girl food.” The activist said.
Joe further narrated Agbor’s effort to treat herself as she was reportedly bleeding after the rape.
According to the activist, she called Odogwu Asaaba who sent her N10,000 while also threatening her.
Agbor allegedly fell into depression and took her own life after being told by an activist she reported the case to that she should forget the case as her rapist is an influential person.
“The girl con call her twin sister report say dem don rape her. She called her mother wey go sell market for Port Harcourt. The mother told her to go back to Warri.
“The girl came back and still told him she is bleeding. Odogwu Asaaba sent this girl N10,000 and con dey intimidate the girl. Their conversation dey.
“This girl still go meet one activist wey she know for Asaba. After the activist took her statement, she told this girl say this guy is a very influential guy, na popular guy. Make the girl let the sleeping dog lie.
“This girl fell into depression. She went to buy Sniper and drank it.” Joe said.
The activist recalled effort to resusticate Agbor who was initially rushed to WIngate Hospital where she worked.
She was however rejected there and transferred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where she was also rejected as the hospital staff were alleged to be on strike.
Agbor unfortunately died at Capital Hill hospital in Warri.
“They started rushing her to hospitals. They rushed her to Wingate where she was learning nursing. That one no fit help. They rushed her to UPTH, those ones say dem dey on strike.
“They rushed this girl back to Capitol Hill for Warri here where she died. They buried her about three weeks ago, but we will exhume the corpse for autopsy.” Joe said.
He disclosed that Odogwu Asaaba had since been arrested with plans to exhume the body of the late nurse for autopsy following a petition to the police.
During interrogation, the content creator alleged admitted to raping the 20-year-old lady.
“Odogwu of Asaaba now we don arrest am. He is in police custody. He did not deny any of all these allegations. When they confronted him with the conversations, he did not deny them.
“Yesterday, police have been on his trail. I wrote a petition to the CP. I spoke with the Police Commissioner that see who I was to investigate the case, ACP Aliyu Shaba.” Joe added.
Meanwhile, NPO Reports contacted Wingate Hospital to confirm claims that the late Agbor worked at the hospital and was rejected after being rushed there for treatment.
The hospital however refused to confirm the claims, citing confidentiality of their patients.
“One of our priorities is patients’ confidentiality. Even though the patient has passed on, we don’t just divulge information to people.
“On this particular one, I don’t have any information on that” a staff of the hospital who spoke to our correspondent in a telephone call said.
In the same vein, the arrest of Odogwu Asaaba is yet to be confirmed by the Delta Police Command as no official statement has been issued in respect to the case as at the time of filing this report.
