Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu, has slammed the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged lack of transparency in the party’s primaries.
Yesufu called out the party’s National Secretary over the party’s decision to rule out the direct primaries for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial ticket despite earlier announcing that it will be conducted.
She faulted the secretary’s issuance of statement announcing that direct primaries will be conducted before the change in decision.
Yesufu made this known while addressing the NDC leadership at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
The activist, who had earlier declared interest in the FCT Senatorial seat, decried being intimidated and trolled since she joined the party as she vowed not to provide venue for the declaration of a consensus candidate.
“If the National Secretary does not have what it what it takes to go to every local government, then he shouldn’t have put out a statement to the ward that he was going to the that. If we say something, we must stand by our word. It is on our official channel.
“So therefore, I, Aisha Yesufu, will not provide venue for anybody. I’m not asking for a level playing ground. I’m asking for the ground.
“I was told repeatedly that I came in late to this party. Who does that? I’ve endured a lot in the last how many days. My name has been dragged all over.” She said.
Yesufu claimed to have endured the troll on account of the presidential candidacy of Peter Obi.
Meanwhile, she expressed readiness to admit defeat at the NDC primaries, providing it was conducted fairly with transparency.
“Let me tell you, we are going for war, and this battle is not about who wins. It is to follow a process that is transparent so that when you see somebody who win, you prostrate for the person.
“I said I’m ready. If I lost, I lost honourably and fairly. I have a presidential candidate that I am there for. I haven’t said anything with the way my name has been dragged. I kept quite.
“People have been calling me I said no don’t react, I have a presidential candidate, and we need to take over.” She said.
