A unidentified woman has been arrested for posing as a nurse and attempting to steal a newborn baby at Divine Mercy Hospital, Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State.
In a video making rounds on social media, the suspect dressed in a nurse’s uniform and walked into the hospital before approaching a new mother to ask questions about her baby.
The hospital staff became suspicious after the woman’s actions and began recording her.
In the video, a doctor wearing a yellow-striped shirt was seen questioning the woman about her reason for being at the hospital. However, she was unable to provide a convincing explanation.

According to the new mother whose baby the woman attempted to take, she approached her and asked whether she had given birth to a boy or a girl.
She said after telling the woman she had a baby boy, the suspect congratulated her and claimed she was a nurse who had recently been employed at the hospital.
The mother said she became suspicious and questioned when the woman started working at Divine Mercy Hospital, adding that she had never seen her before.
She alleged that she does not do ward rounds.
A voice heard in the background of the video also alleged that the woman later stepped outside the hospital and was heard making a phone call, asking the person on the other end whether they wanted a boy or a girl.
The new mother also confirmed that she witnessed the phone call.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect had been arrested and is currently in police custody.
