Isaac Fayose has called for an investigation into comments previously made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the recent kidnapping incident involving schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Fayose, speaking in a video that has circulated widely on social media, alleged that certain remarks made by the former Rivers State governor before the incident should not be ignored by security agencies.
The businessman and political commentator argued that the timing of the abduction had raised questions that deserved closer scrutiny.
According to him, the incident occurred around a period of heightened political activity in Oyo State, including discussions surrounding the succession plans of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Fayose recalled a previous statement in which Wike allegedly threatened to “put fire” in Oyo State during his political disagreement with Makinde.
He claimed that the minister later made remarks that appeared to mock the Oyo governor after the kidnapping incident, a development he described as disturbing.
While stopping short of presenting any evidence linking the FCT minister to the crime, Fayose insisted that security agencies should investigate the circumstances surrounding the comments and determine whether there was any connection.
He also criticised suggestions from some political figures that Governor Makinde could have had a role in the kidnapping, describing such claims as unreasonable and insensitive given the seriousness of the incident.
Fayose further referenced the security challenges that existed in Rivers State during Wike’s tenure as governor, arguing that Nigerians should pay close attention to political developments and statements made by influential public office holders.
According to him, the remarks attributed to the minister, combined with the timing of the abduction, were enough to warrant questioning by relevant security agencies.
He said if institutions were functioning effectively, authorities such as the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) would have invited Wike for questioning in order to clear public doubts and reassure citizens.
The comments have since generated reactions online, with supporters and critics of both politicians engaging in heated debates over the allegations.
