A group of protesting students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) have intensified boycott of school activities as they stopped a campus shuttle, ordering all its passengers out and forced them to join the demonstration over the death of their colleague.
NPO Reported that suspected armed robbers had in the early hours of Thursday murdered a student during a robbery operation at an off-campus hostel.
The deceased student identified as Lawanson Anthony Abiodun, had reportedly stepped out of his room during the robbery operation.
He was tragically shot dead by the suspected robbers who sighted him.
The development had sparked outrage from the students’ community who had since embarked on protest over Abiodun’s murder.
While the OOU management had in reaction declared the day a lecture-free day, the protesting students however disrupted all activities across the school.
One of the videos of the protest shared on TikTok showed the students stopping a shuttle suspected to be conveying their fellow colleagues into the campus.
They stopped the vehicle and ordered the passengers to join them in the protest.
Meanwhile the Ogun State Police had since confirmed the tragic incident with investigation said to be ongoing.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, said it has commenced investigation into the killing of the student .
Babaseyi explained that police operatives responded promptly to the incident and had launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
The police spokesperson commiserated with the family of the deceased and the OOU community, assuring them that investigations were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
