US-Iran deal: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday claimed that a “final, agreed-upon text” of the peace deal between the United States and Iran had been reached, crediting “intense mediation efforts by Pakistan”.

Pak PM says US-Iran deal close

Taking to X, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is now “working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps” to formalise a US-Iran deal to end the West Asia war. “Peace has never been this close as it is now”, he added.

Sharif alleged that an “incessant misinformation campaign” was being waged by “those who want to sabotage” the proposed peace deal.

“Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal. Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached,” he wrote.

What Iran said about ‘Islamabad MoU’?

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” was close to being formalised but pending finalization from the leaders of both countries.

He also urged the media from speculating about the content of the proposed US-Iran deal, and all details will be made public in due time.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course,” Araghchi wrote on X.

What’s proposed in US-Iran deal?

Earlier, a CNN report, citing diplomatic sources, said a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington is expected to be signed in Geneva, with the proposed agreement including an extension of the ceasefire, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a framework for further talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei had dismissed reports suggesting that the US-Iran deal has been finalised, stating that no final agreement has been reached so far, Press TV reported.

Trump accuses Iran of acting in bad faith

US President Donald Trump also rejected those reports, accusing the Islamic Republic of not acting in “good faith” while dealing with the US, and alleged that Tehran had misrepresented the contents of the proposed deal and criticised the country’s leadership for what he described as dishonourable conduct.

“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith,” Trump said in a Truth Social Post.
