A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a reported assault involving a suspected machete attack outside a shop in Bournemouth.
Dorset Police said officers were called after receiving a report of an assault outside G&T’s on Wimborne Road in the early hours of Friday, 19 June 2026.
The incident happened at around 1.44am, according to the force. The victim, a man in his 40s from Bournemouth, was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
Police have put a cordon in place around the scene while officers carry out enquiries. The cordon was seen in the area from around 7am on Friday as the investigation continued.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said the force had received a report of an assault involving a suspected machete outside G&T’s in Wimborne Road.
The spokesperson added that a detailed investigation is now underway to establish the full circumstances of what happened. Officers have also urged anyone with information, or anyone with concerns, to speak to police at the scene.
The incident has caused concern in the Winton area, with residents waking up to a police cordon and officers carrying out checks near the shop.
BCP Councillor Simon Bull, who represents Winton East, said it was “awful” to hear that an assault had taken place in Winton in the early hours of the morning.
He said such incidents were not common in Winton or the wider Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area, but added that even one violent attack was too many.
Councillor Bull also said the incident showed why police must be properly funded so they can prevent violent crime where possible and respond quickly when it happens.
He wished the victim a speedy recovery.
The suspected use of a machete will raise further concern about serious violence and weapon-related crime in local communities. While police have not yet confirmed the full details of the attack, officers are continuing to work at the scene and gather evidence.
Residents and businesses in the area may also be asked to help with the investigation, especially if they saw anything unusual in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police are likely to review CCTV from nearby premises and speak to potential witnesses as they try to piece together what happened before, during and after the reported assault.
