Troops deployed in various security operations across the North-Central zone have rescued a kidnap victim, arrested suspected criminals and recovered ammunition.
This is contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Abuja.
The army said the troops of Operation Ensuring Peace (OPEP) rescued a kidnap victim in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau, following reports of suspected kidnappers blocking the Manchok-Jos highway in the Ganawuri area.
It said the troops launched search-and-rescue operations in surrounding hills and forests, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee.
According to the army, the victim was rescued with injuries and evacuated for medical treatment, while his vehicle was recovered.
“In a separate incident in Riyom, troops responded to an attack on herders and recovered the body of one victim, while two others with gunshot wounds were evacuated to hospital.
“In Nasarawa State, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, working with operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, arrested a suspected gunrunner in Obi Local Government Area.
“The operation led to the recovery of 300 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” it said.
The report further revealed that troops and Defence Intelligence Agency operatives conducted a cordon-and-search operation in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba.
It added that the operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition from suspected criminal hideouts.
“In the Federal Capital Territory, troops arrested three suspected illegal miners in Abaji and recovered mining equipment, including a pumping machine, shovels and water pipes.
“The suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further action,” it added. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
