President Bola Tinubu has declared that his administration’s ongoing road infrastructure projects are revitalising the economy by improving connectivity, reducing travel time and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The President made the remarks on Monday during the official commissioning of the newly rehabilitated and expanded road linking Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, alongside several adjoining roads in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The project forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration. The President was represented at the ceremony by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu described the completed road network as a practical demonstration of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at easing urban congestion and improving the quality of life for Nigerians.
“We were in this vicinity to commission water supply to Karu and neighbouring communities. Today, it is roads, and indeed this project stands as a clear testament to our promise to reduce urban congestion and upgrade the living standard of our people. It is a direct order of our Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” the President said.
Tinubu recalled that upon assuming office three years ago, his administration identified infrastructure development as a critical driver of economic growth, particularly in rapidly expanding urban centres.
“When we took office three years ago, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live and commute. For years, the Karu corridor, serving as a critical gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, suffered from severe traffic congestion that affected the productivity and energy of residents,” he stated.
According to the President, the reconstruction and expansion of the road network will significantly improve daily commuting, reduce traffic bottlenecks and stimulate commercial activities within the area.
“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt but injecting life back into the local economy. This project cuts down daily travel time, eliminates gridlock and ensures that businesses in this densely populated area can thrive under the right conditions,” he added.
Tinubu further highlighted the safety features incorporated into the project, noting that the roads have been equipped with modern solar-powered street lighting to improve visibility and enhance security for road users.
“The premium road network prioritises the safety of its users, both day and night. To ensure maximum security along this corridor, the FCT Administration has installed modern solar-powered street lights along the entire road network, drastically reducing the risks associated with night-time travel and improving visibility for motorists,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects across the country, maintaining that investments in roads, transportation and other public utilities remain central to his government’s economic development strategy and efforts to improve the daily lives of Nigerians.
