Thousands of commuters are still stranded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as traffic gridlock intensified.

The situation which started around 12 noon on Tuesday had degenerated by evening as more travelers ran into the gridlock caused by flooded part of the highway.

Those who had sought alternative routes such as Iperu Remo through Shagamu Road have become equally stranded as the Interchange bridge has become totally blocked.

To complicate the situation many motorists abandoned their lane to face oncoming vehicles creating further logjams.

NPO earlier Reported the buildup of the traffic which stretched across over three kilometres from Shagamu Interchange.

The logjams caused by motorists who diverted to one-way had further caused the extension of the traffic.
