Protesters have again stormed Ibadan, Oyo state’s capital city, in demand for the release of schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The protesters under the aegis of the #TakeitBack Movement converged at the Iwo Road axis in what was described as a total shutdown of activities along the road in the early hours of Monday.
They demanded an end to insecurity and accountability over the ongoing abduction crisis.
Videos of the protest shared on X showed the protesters occupying the road, causing heavy traffic gridlock.
The demonstration which lasted also saw Muslim faithfuls observing Zuhr prayer at the protest ground.
They continued with the demonstration with placards and banners containing inscriptions demanding the release of the 47 kidnap victims.
Recall that suspected terrorists had on the 15th of May 2026 stormed the Oriire LGA abducting scores of students and their teachers in multiple raids on Ahoro-Esinele Community Grammar School, Yaota Baptist Nursery School, and L.A Nursery and Primary school.
The attack had claimed the lives of a teacher and a motorcyclist with subsequent murder of Micheal Oyewole, one of the kidnapped teachers who was beheaded in captivity.
The incident had since sparked outrage and protests across the country.
