THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, for the total renovation of the orientation camp and the upward review of corps members’ allowances in the state.
The State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Tyoyer Gabriel-Ter, gave the commendation at the swearing-in of corps members under the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation exercise on Monday in Wamakko Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 1,145 corps members deployed to the state will conduct their one year mandatory national service in Sokoto State.
Gabriel-Ter said the camp renovation, including the expansion of the multipurpose hall to accommodate 3,000 corps members, would smoothen activities.
He added that the increase in corps members’ allowances would serve as motivation for greater dedication.
The coordinator passionately appealed to the state government to consider providing mattresses, solar lighting, a Hilux vehicle, and a N5 million monthly subvention.
He described camp activities as regimental and designed to prepare corps members for future challenges, while urging them to avail themselves of all physical and mental activities, especially skills acquisition training.
The NYSC Governing Board Chairman, Hajia Hadiza Galadima, also commended Gov. Aliyu for the total renovation of the NYSC camp, which she said would enhance favourable camp activities.
In his speech, Gov. Aliyu pledged more support for the NYSC scheme and promised enhanced welfare for corps members posted to the state.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad, said the scheme had over the years played a vital role in enhancing national integration.
He said it had boosted the social, cultural, and physical development of the country, urging corps members to sustain the tempo.
The governor enjoined corps members to use the one-year service period to promote national unity in line with the fundamental objectives of the scheme.
He promised to prioritise their security and welfare, irrespective of where in the state they were posted to serve.
Aliyu urged them to be agents of societal change by imbibing a high sense of discipline and promoting tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
He further enjoined corps members to uphold the good morals acquired during training and encouraged them to interact and integrate freely with their host communities, starting from camp.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Sa’idu Sifawa, represented by Justice A. Moyi, administered the oath of allegiance to corps members to signal the commencement of the orientation exercise. (NAN)
