PATRIC Ezie, the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Silver-Cross Hospital and Foundation, has been honoured as the Outstanding Doctor of the South-East by the Igbo Prestigious Award Initiative 2026.
Ezie received the award in recognition of his contributions to healthcare delivery, humanitarian services and community development across Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the award ceremony in Abuja, Ezie attributed the recognition to the impact of his hospital and foundation’s interventions in underserved communities.
He said the foundation had continued to provide medical outreach programmes and support to vulnerable populations across the country.
According to him, more than 4,000 people benefited from a recent medical outreach conducted in Anambra.
“We perform a lot of outreaches across the country and there is a lot that my foundation is doing to help people who are impoverished in many parts of the country.
“Last month, we were in Anambra where we provided healthcare services to over 4,000 people, and we will continue to support communities in need,” he said.
Ezie said the award would serve as an encouragement to expand his humanitarian and healthcare initiatives.
He noted that many professionals from the South-East were being encouraged to invest more in the region to accelerate development.
The medical practitioner, however, identified insecurity and mismanagement of development resources as some of the factors discouraging greater investment in the region.
According to him, stakeholders must work together to address such challenges and create an enabling environment for development.
Describing the recognition as a great honour, Ezie said being named the Outstanding Doctor of the South-East was especially significant given the number of medical professionals making valuable contributions within and outside the region.
“For them to profile me and find me worthy of such an award is something I deeply appreciate. It will also motivate me to do more,” he said.
Ezie disclosed that plans were underway to expand healthcare infrastructure in the South-East through the development of hospitals across the region.
He said discussions were ongoing on a project aimed at establishing six hospitals in each of the states in the South-East to improve access to quality healthcare services.
The Igbo Prestigious Award Initiative is an annual platform that honours individuals for professional excellence, community service and contributions to the development of the South-East.
The event, themed “Akuruo-Ulo” (bringing wealth and investment home), celebrated outstanding contributions to governance, business, entertainment, healthcare, culture and youth development. (NAN)
