Peter Obi made an appearance at Mother of Christ Specialist Hospital in Enugu State on Friday, presenting a 10 million naira donation to aid reconstruction efforts at the facility following a catastrophic fire that erupted on May 10, destroying the administrative section, office spaces, and a section of the children’s ward.
The blaze destroyed equipment valued at over 25 million naira, though a statue of the Virgin Mary was remarkably found untouched amid the wreckage, according to hospital administrator Sister Maria Chinaemerem Igwe.
The donation is consistent with Obi’s record of supporting faith-based health facilities in the region, where he regularly contributes between 10 and 20 million naira and emphasises the role healthcare plays in broader development efforts.
Supporters commended Obi for his humility and swift response to the hospital’s plight, with reports indicating that the funds had already been credited to the hospital’s account.
