Pastor Adeboye Will Not Command Tinubu – RCCG Declares Stance Amid Protests

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has cleared the air regarding its political stance, stating that the growing demand for General Overseer Pastor E.A. Adeboye to “command” President Bola Tinubu on how to govern the nation is completely unrealistic.

The clarification was contained in a statement released by the church’s public relations unit.

According to the release, Pastor Adeboye is a clergyman, not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. It stressed that the church is not a political party, does not serve as a religious arm to any political organisation, and is not responsible for the current economic and security challenges facing Nigeria.

‘Yes, Nigeria is facing enormous challenges, and citizens have every right to desire solutions. However, the growing demand that Pastor Adeboye should “command” the President or the First Lady on how to run the affairs of the nation is both unrealistic and unreasonable,’ the church said.

The statement also debunked a narrative online that uses old photos to claim Pastor Adeboye led a protest against the former administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. According to the church, the recycled photograph was actually taken during a peaceful nationwide walk ordered by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) during the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. That particular walk, the church said, was a response to the persistent killing of Christians, and Adeboye’s placard at the time emphasised that all human lives—both Christian and Muslim—matter to God.

While emphasising that the cleric cannot dictate terms to the presidency, the RCCG maintained that Pastor Adeboye has never remained silent on national issues. The church recalled his public counsel during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, where the 84-year-old general overseer openly warned the President about the worsening security situation.

During that service, Adeboye advised that security chiefs should be given a strict ultimatum to finish the insurgency or lose their jobs, famously stating, “When they eliminate the terrorists, ask them to eliminate their sponsors too.”
