Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State defected on Tuesday from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The defections were announced during plenary at the House of Representatives, where Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters from 13 lawmakers notifying the chamber of their change of party affiliation.
The Oyo lawmakers who joined the APM are Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle.
In their separate letters, the lawmakers attributed their decision to the prolonged leadership crisis and internal disputes within the PDP, saying they needed an alternative platform to pursue their political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development comes weeks after Makinde defected to the APM and subsequently emerged as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
With the latest defections, six of Oyo State’s 14 members in the House of Representatives have now aligned with the governor in the APM.
Elsewhere, lawmakers also switched parties during Tuesday’s plenary. In Bauchi State, Auwalu Gwalabe left the PDP for the APM.
Meanwhile, Shehu Dalhatu, representing Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa Federal Constituency of Katsina State, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.
“After careful consideration of the issues in the APC and having consulted with my constituencies, I have resolved to join the PDP,” Dalhatu said in his letter.

Also, Etanabene Benedict left the Labour Party for the PDP, citing internal crises within the party.
The PDP further gained Alex Egbona, who defected from the APC, while assuring constituents of his continued commitment to legislative duties.
In another move, Edo lawmaker Esosa Iyawe left the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), blaming irreconcilable differences with the party’s state chapter.
Similarly, Nasarawa lawmaker Gbefwi Gaza announced his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the Labour Party.
The latest wave of defections underscores the growing realignments taking shape across Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
