THE Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, has scored Gov. Seyi Makinde high in fulfilling his promise to people at the grassroots.

ALGON Chairman in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, told  journalists in Ibadan on Saturday that the governor had changed the old narrative in the primary healthcare sector through the construction and rehabilitation of health centres in each ward.

He also cited rapid infrastructural development across towns and cities in the state, noting that every zone had been connected through good roads, aiding rapid economic impact for the citizens.

Sanda debunked insinuations that the governor was not in support of full local government autonomy, saying people misinterpreted his comments on the Supreme Court judgment.

He added that the state and local government joint account has not undermined growth and development at the local government level in Oyo State as being speculated, due to collaboration between the two tiers of government.

This collaboration, Sanda said, had led to the successful completion of numerous projects across local governments in the state.

He dismissed allegations that too many ghost workers at the local government level were among the reasons why council areas lacked money to execute developmental projects at the grassroots.

The ALGON chairman said that appointments, promotions, transfers, punishments and other issues of local government administration were handled by the Local Government Service Commission.

He assured residents that more dividends of democracy would reach more people at the grassroots in the state before the expiration of the tenure of the current administration led by Gov. Makinde. (NAN)
