THE Lagos Four Ace Lions Club is to renovate four blocks of classrooms and provide a borehole for a selected school as its flagship project for the 2025/2026 Lions Service Year.
The Charter President, Delphine Robin, disclosed this on Saturday during her acceptance speech after her presentation as the charter President.
The event also featured the club’s fundraising luncheon, induction of members and installation of charter officers for the 2025-2026 Lions Service Year.
The event held at the Aotel Hotel, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lagos Four Ace Lions Club is under Lions International District 404B4, Nigeria.
Robin said the project was aimed at improving learning conditions and access to clean water for pupils.
She expressed the club’s commitment to humanitarian service.
“As we set out to serve our communities, I want to seize this opportunity to introduce our core project for this Lions Service Year: renovation of four blocks of classrooms and provision of a borehole for our adopted school.
“I appeal on behalf of Lagos Four Ace Lions Club for your physical, moral and financial support to bring this project to life,” she said.
Robin pledged to lead the club in line with the ideals of Lions International.
She called for collective efforts of all the members and stakeholders to achieve the club’s objectives.
According to her, the success of the club will depend on teamwork, constructive criticisms, encouragement and active participation of members.
“Together, we shall continue to fulfil the goals and purpose of Lions International.
“I hereby accept to be the Charter President of Lagos Four Ace Lions Club and declare that this charter will be well guarded, honoured and held in high esteem as we walk through our service journey,” she said.
Robin described the formation of the Lagos Four Ace Lions Club as a collective achievement, and expressed appreciation to district leaders, mentors, sponsors and pioneer members for support throughout the chartering process.
She particularly thanked the District Governor, Mr Debo Afolayan, and other leaders for guidance and commitment to membership growth.
She also thanked the Renewed Yinka Bolarinwa Lions Club for supporting the emergence of Lagos Four Ace Lions Club.
Robin expressed optimism that the club would contribute significantly to community development and humanitarian services across Lagos and beyond.
The Lions International Director for Africa, Adetope Tychus, urged members of the club to serve with purpose and focus on making lives and the society better.
Tychus said that the club’s membership should not be measured by numbers alone but also by impact made through service and the hope restored to vulnerable people.
“Membership is not only in the numbers but also in the services rendered and smiles we bring to the hopeless.
“As we bring in new members, we must also ensure we retain them so that they can hand over a legacy to the next generation,” she said.
She also encouraged the members to embrace diversity and inclusivity, saying that differences in backgrounds, professions and cultures should be a source of strength for the organisation.
The Lions International Global Membership Team Coordinator for Nigeria, Mr Taiwo Oloyede, described the charter presentation as a significant achievement for the district.
He expressed confidence in the capacity of the club to make meaningful contributions to the society.
According to him, Lagos Four Ace Lions Club will be excellent, given the calibre of leaders and members it has.
He advised the club’s leaders and members to be committed to the mission, purpose and code of ethics of Lions International.
Earlier, a past official of club, Idowu Anobi, described Lions International as the world’s largest service organisation with over 1.4 million members dedicated to serving humanity through various humanitarian causes.
Anobi said the chartering of a new club was always a source of joy because it expanded the organisation’s capacity to impact communities.
“It is always a thing of joy when new members join the Lions Club because it means we can render more services to humanity,” she said.
Anobi described Robin as a passionate and committed person who had consistently demonstrated dedication to humanitarian service.
An Africa Group Leader of the club, Mr Sam Ekpuk, said the event provided an opportunity to highlight the organisation’s activities in areas such as youth development, vision care, hunger relief and childhood cancer interventions.
He stressed the importance of partnerships and collaboration in advancing humanitarian projects, especially amid economic challenges.
“Collaboration within and outside the club has become even more important because the economic situation makes it difficult for individuals to do it alone,” he said.
Ekpuk also urged members of the club to remain united in spite of challenges they might encounter in the course of service.
In his remarks, Mr Folorunsho Samuel, a Guiding Lion, described the occasion as historic, and urged members of the club to remain purpose-driven in order to sustain their commitments to humanitarian service. (NAN)
