The Police Command in Osun has commenced an investigation into a shooting incident targeting the Osun Accord party chairman, Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said in a statement issued in Osogbo that gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on Ajibola’s vehicle in a suspected assassination attempt.
Recall that NPO reported that the incident occured on Wednesday along Community Bank axis of MDS Osogbo, where the gun wielding men repeatedly shot the car of the party chairman and his friends in their blue colour Toyota Corolla car .
Ojelabi said that immediately the command received the report, officers were mobilised to the scene.
According to him, the victim was taken to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.
Ojelabi added that medical personnel had confirmed that the victim was in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.
He said the police had launched an aggressive manhunt for the fleeing suspects to ensure their arrest and prosecution.
Ojelabi further stated that preliminary investigations at the scene led to the recovery of exhibits, which are being subjected to forensic analysis.
