One Injured as Suspected IED Explodes in Lagos Market

One person was on Monday injured after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin area of Lagos State.

The explosion of the suspected IED reportedly planted beneath a vehicle had caused panic among traders and residents.

In the wake of the incident, the Lagos Police Commissioner, Fatai Tijani, led a team of security personnel, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts to the market.

Tijani directed the personnel to secure and sweep the area.

While the circumstances surrounding the incident is yet to be revealed by the police, some reports claimed that the explosive device planted beneath the passenger side of the vehicle detonated when the engine was started.

The police have however declared the location safe and free of any IED threat after a thorough assessment, search, and recovery operations.

Residents were urged to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, as the Lagos Police Commissioner assured them of adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property.
