The Ogun State Police Command has nabbed six suspected criminals and recovered firearms, generators and mobile phones in separate intelligence-led operations.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and Ibafo Division carried out the operations.

According to him, the operations disrupted criminal networks involved in illegal possession of firearms, theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

He said exhibits recovered included a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

“Other recovered items are five generators and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen,” he said.

Babaseyi said VCRU operatives arrested one of the suspects on May 30, following intelligence linking him to a generator theft syndicate in Abeokuta.

The police spokesperson explained that the suspect led detectives to another suspect alleged to be a receiver of stolen property.

“A search of the premises led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android phones.

“The police also arrested a motorcyclist accused of providing logistics support to the syndicate. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the network,” he said.

Babaseyi said SWAT operatives also arrested another suspect on June 12 over an alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

He said the suspect was accused of using the weapons to threaten residents of Wasimi and neighbouring communities.

According to him, a search led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle and ammunition.

He said the suspect initially denied ownership but later claimed he found the pistol and fired it to test its functionality.

The police spokesperson added that the suspect also alleged that an unidentified person gave him the pump-action rifle.

He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons connected with the case.

Babaseyi further disclosed that Ibafo Division operatives uncovered a vehicle parts theft network on June 13.

He said detectives acted on a complaint from a site at Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo, saying the operation led to the arrest of a suspect and his accomplice.

The spokesperson said all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and public safety across the state.
