An Accounting graduate of the University of Uyo, Imikan Inyang, popularly known on TikTok as Backhat Dude, has captured the attention of millions through videos featuring his primary school pupils at his teaching post in Ekiti.
What began as a simple classroom recording has evolved into one of the most feel-good success stories on Nigerian TikTok, turning an NYSC corps member and his pupils into social media personalities.
Since posting his first video with the children on February 17, 2026, Inyang has progressively developed a dedicated online following by sharing light-hearted classroom moments, dance challenges and interactions that highlight the pupils’ self-assurance and individual traits.
His moment came after a video he created with his pupils went viral, leading him to produce further content with the children outside formal school hours.
Discussing his approach to balancing content creation with his teaching responsibilities, the corps member emphasised that education remains his main focus, noting that academics come first after school hours.
The videos typically showcase the pupils in their school uniforms enthusiastically gathering in front of the camera to take part in trending TikTok challenges alongside their teacher.
They have participated in several popular trends, including the “Channel” challenge by Blaqbonez and Asake, and the “Come Slide” challenge by Qing Madi.
Their rendition of the “Come Slide” dance gained such traction that Qing Madi herself responded to it, joking that they should ask someone named Dolapo to return her song.
While all the children featured have attracted their own followers, one pupil has distinguished herself as the standout. Dolapo Ezieke has become the face of the group, winning admirers through her self-confidence, intelligence and engaging personality.
The page has accumulated nearly 50,000 followers, with supporters closely following her activities outside the classroom videos.
Another pupil, Priscilla Morris, is also earning attention online, with her own TikTok page managed by her mother continuing to grow as viewers become more acquainted with the children in the viral clips.
In addition to the trending challenges, Inyang’s content offers insights into routine school activities. In one notable video, the pupils amusingly taught him Yoruba words and phrases.
He has also shared everyday moments from his school environment, giving followers a look at the relationship he has developed with the children.
During school breaks, he posted a heartfelt video of Dolapo sending him a touching message, deepening the emotional bond many followers feel toward the pupils.
As Inyang approaches the conclusion of his National Youth Service in August, many followers have voiced worries about what may occur once he departs the school.
For many Nigerians, these videos have transcended mere entertainment.
They are viewed as an uplifting demonstration of how educators can meaningfully engage with pupils, foster confidence and build memorable experiences while prioritising education.
