President Bola Tinubu has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for a successful operation in Kogi State that led to the killing of a notorious bandit kingpin, Ibrahim Bastuji, describing the development as a breakthrough in the fight against insecurity.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the President said the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal networks responsible for violence, kidnappings, and attacks on communities across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
Tinubu commended the troops for their bravery and coordination, noting that the success reflects the renewed determination of security forces to rid the country of violent criminal elements.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals. Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place,” the President was quoted as saying.
He added that the neutralisation of the bandit leader would help restore confidence among residents who have long suffered from repeated attacks.
The President also praised another operation in which security forces rescued Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar, widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd).
Describing the rescue as a demonstration of professionalism and intelligence coordination, Tinubu said the operation underscored the commitment of security agencies to protect all citizens, regardless of status.
“The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians… We owe a debt of gratitude to our troops who risk their lives daily to keep us safe,” he said.
Reiterating his administration’s stance on national security, Tinubu warned that individuals engaged in violent crimes would continue to face decisive action from security forces.
He also urged citizens to support ongoing security operations by providing credible intelligence to help combat banditry and other criminal activities across the country.
