AS preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to attract widespread attention across the country. While political competition remains a vital aspect of democracy, it has become increasingly evident that some individuals and groups have embarked on coordinated media attacks aimed at discrediting and demarketing the party. However, many supporters believe that no amount of propaganda, misinformation, or sponsored attacks can derail the growing acceptance of the NDC among Nigerians.
A significant number of these attacks are believed to be coming from disgruntled politicians who were unable to secure victories during the recently concluded NDC direct primary elections. Having failed to gain the confidence and support of party members at the grassroots level, some of these individuals have allegedly joined forces with external interests to undermine the party. Their actions, according to many party faithful, are driven more by personal ambition than by genuine concern for the progress of the nation.
The outcome of the NDC primary election demonstrated the strength of internal democracy within the party. Party members exercised their constitutional rights by choosing candidates they considered most capable of representing their interests. The rejection of certain aspirants was a clear indication that the grassroots remain the ultimate decision-makers in a democratic process. Rather than accepting the verdict of party members, some have resorted to media campaigns against the party that gave them a platform.
Supporters of the NDC maintain that the party has grown beyond individual interests and personal ambitions. They argue that the movement represents the hopes and aspirations of millions of ordinary Nigerians who are yearning for a better future. For them, the NDC is not merely a political platform but a symbol of change, accountability, and people-centered governance. This explains why many believe that the party’s popularity continues to grow despite sustained criticism from opponents.
Furthermore, many Nigerians see the challenges confronting the nation—such as insecurity, unemployment, youth restiveness, inadequate healthcare, poor road infrastructure, and weaknesses in the education sector—as issues that require urgent and decisive leadership. According to NDC supporters, attacks on the party are viewed as attempts to weaken a political movement that seeks to address these pressing concerns and give hope to struggling citizens.
As 2027 approaches, the determination of NDC supporters appears stronger than ever. They insist that political intimidation, media attacks, and sponsored campaigns will not distract them from their objective of building a better Nigeria. Their message remains clear: the future belongs to the people, and the power to shape that future rests in the hands of voters. Regardless of the opposition, they remain convinced that the NDC will continue to grow and remain a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
