All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has proposed the establishment of a United States military base in Borno State to combat the menace of Boko Haram insurgents operating in the North-East.
He made the suggestion recently while appearing as a guest on the Channels Television programme, ‘Sunday Politics’.
Addressing the security challenges facing the North-East region of the country, Ndume argued that the strategic location of the Mandara Mountains could provide security operatives with a vantage point for monitoring insurgent activities in parts of Borno State, including the Sambisa Forest.
Speaking during the interview, he said, “I am in full support. In fact, I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains, please. It will go a long way to cut down on insecurity.”
The Borno South Senator argued that enhanced surveillance and military operations in the area could help disrupt movement routes and supply channels allegedly used by insurgent groups operating across parts of the North-East.

He also maintained that the Nigerian military requires additional resources and support to effectively tackle security threats in the region.
“You can’t do that without a team and enough boots on the ground. The Nigerian Army needs the resources,” he added.
The senator further noted that strengthening operations around the Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest, and surrounding areas could contribute to reducing the activities of insurgent groups and improve security in affected communities.
While reacting to the mood of Nigerians as the 2027 election approaches, the federal lawmaker admitted that Nigerians are angry with the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“Actually, I know that Nigerians are angry. I can see it, but these things can be corrected, and President Bola Tinubu is willing, and we are hoping that things come up,” Ndume noted.
