The former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, has explained why he holds the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, in high esteem, saying he does not throw money around like other politicians.

He made this known on Sunday night during a candid interview on Channels TV.

Baba-Ahmed was responding to criticisms that he was unable to win his ward and Local Government Area for the Labour Party in 2023.

According to him, Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the LP in 2023, remains on his list of respected politicians, and he warned critics against trying to drive a wedge between them.

He added that though he and the former Anambra State governor are now in different political parties, they maintain mutual respect for each other.

Speaking on the programme, Baba-Ahmed said: “Nobody will cause a problem between me and my boss, Peter Obi. We can be in different parties today but I still have respect for him as someone who governed and someone who doesn’t give shishi.

“Peter Obi and I have mutual respect for each other, so nobody will come between us.”
