The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Governor Douye Diri to place the interests of Bayelsans above politics by pursuing policies and programmes that promote sustainable development, economic growth and improved welfare for citizens.
Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, the Chairman of the NDC in Bayelsa State, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, called on the state government to provide inclusive leadership and concentrate on addressing critical developmental challenges confronting the state.
Ikuromo alleged that attempts were being made to induce some NDC aspirants with financial incentives aimed at creating divisions within the party, warning that such efforts would not succeed.
According to him, “No amount of inducement can distract the NDC from its determination to take over the leadership of Bayelsa State.”
He advised that resources allegedly being deployed for political purposes should instead be channelled towards tackling pressing developmental issues, including concerns surrounding commissioned but reportedly non-functional gas turbines in the state.
On reports of grievances within the party, Ikuromo said the NDC had established a robust grievance redress mechanism under the leadership of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
He added that the party’s National Executive Council would publish the list of candidates for various positions within the timeframe stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Bayelsa NDC chairman also commended the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for what he described as his exemplary conduct during the party’s primary elections.
According to Ikuromo, Dickson demonstrated fairness, wisdom and tact in overseeing the primary election process across the country, ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants.
He further praised the party leader for promoting the inclusion of youths and women in the primaries, describing the policy as consistent with the principles of affirmative action and broader political participation.
Ikuromo called on party members and supporters across Bayelsa State to remain united and committed to the party’s objective of winning political power in the state.
