The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E (North-East), has announced plans to embark on a peaceful solidarity protest following the abduction of 42 students of Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The protest, scheduled for June 5 to June 7, will be held simultaneously across North-East states including Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba.
According to a notice issued by the Chief of Staff to the NANS Zone E Coordinator, Lukman Yusuf, the demonstration is aimed at drawing national attention to the abducted students and calling for urgent action to secure their release.
He explained that the protest would also serve as a show of solidarity with the affected families while urging authorities to strengthen efforts toward the safe rescue of the victims.
“The demonstration is aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the abducted students, expressing solidarity with their families, and calling on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts towards their immediate rescue,” the statement read.
NANS further called on the Federal Government to reinforce security in schools and other learning environments to prevent similar attacks in the future.
The association directed its structures across the North-East, including Joint Campus Committee leaders, Students’ Union Government executives, delegates, and stakeholders, to mobilise for the protest while ensuring it remains peaceful and orderly.
Zonal Coordinator of NANS Zone E, Comrade Muazu Hina, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to advocating for the safe return of the abducted students and improved security for learners nationwide.
The group said the protest is intended to sustain public attention on the incident and push for stronger action toward securing the victims’ release.
